HURRICANE ISAIAS UPDATE

8/9/2020 3:00PM

First and foremost we would like to thank all of our residents for their patience and perseverance over these last several days. Our Township officials, including the governing body, police department, fire department, and office of emergency management have been in contact with JCPL representatives in an attempt to ascertain a realistic time-frame that our community can expect full power restoration.

The Township of Boonton has had 95 more power restorations in the past 4 hours. There are still 18 isolated outages in the Township as of this time. JCPL has crews on scene at all outage locations and they have begun the restoration process. We expect significant progress throughout the next few hours.

At this time we need to remind all residents to exercise extreme caution around downed power lines. As the restoration process continues, many lines which were at one time inactive, are now most likely live. Residents are urged to dial 911 to report any unsafe conditions. These conditions can also be reported to JCPL by calling 1-888-544-4877. We will continue to provide updates as often as we can.

Township officials are in constant communication with JCPL representatives, and we expect to have more updated information at some point today, 8/9/20.

The Township of Boonton has had 1,217 power restorations over the past 24 hours. JCPL is reporting that there are still 196 customers without power in Boonton Township. Some of the areas most affected with storm damage were Kingsland Road, Farber Hill Road, and Decamp Drive. Much of the complications in these neighborhoods were attributed to trees which took down live power lines and transformers, making it impossible for our road department to begin the tree removal process. In these instances, the trees can not be removed until JCPL crews arrive on scene. As of 4:45pm on August 8th, line crews have arrived on Kingsland Road and have initiated the restoration process.

At this time we need to remind all residents to exercise extreme caution around downed power lines. As the restoration process continues, many lines which were at one time inactive, are now most likely live. Residents are urged to dial 911 to report any unsafe conditions.
