Winter Weather Reminder: Roadway & Fire Hydrant Safety

As a reminder, residents and contractors are not permitted to deposit excess snow or debris onto any public roadway or area of travel. Over the past 48 hours, multiple roadways have become partially or fully impassable due to snow and debris being pushed from private driveways into the street.

We understand that many driveways are cleared by private contractors or plowing services, and residents may not always be aware when snow is displaced into the roadway. However, roadways must remain clear at all times, and using public streets to dump excess snow is not permitted.

The Boonton Township Police Department has issued several warnings regarding this issue and is now asking for the public’s cooperation to help keep our roadways safe and passable. With several weeks of winter weather still expected, we ask all residents to remain mindful of this concern.

Additionally, we ask for the community’s assistance in keeping fire hydrants clear and accessible. Residents with hydrants on or near their property can help protect their neighbors and community by ensuring first responders have unobstructed access in the event of an emergency.

Thank you for your cooperation towards keeping Boonton Township safe this winter.
